Household & Home Insurance - Avoid Under-Insurance
Householders have been advised to rethink their insurance policies after purchasing valuable items which they will keep in their home.
It is important that home-owners alert their insurance company when they have bought items such as high-value artwork or expensive jewellery, to ensure that the right kind of cover is put into place immediately.
Furthermore, certain possessions may require special security arrangements if they are to be insured, with jewellery sometimes needing to be stored in a safe.
Items above a certain value will normally be specified on the home insurance policy and covered on an 'All Risks' basis, which usually means they are insured anywhere in the UK or even the world.
If an item hasn't been declared to the insurance company and a loss happens there is a good chance the insurer will not pay out when a claim is made.
To ensure the correct home insurance cover is in place Oakland Insurance recommend clients notify them of any precious item (jewelery, art, watches etc') with a value over £500 and about any item with a value of more than £1000.
